Plastic Machining

Plastic Machining

Plastic machining is one of the most diverse and challenging types of machining. The thing about machining plastic is it bends and warps in ways that other materials don’t. When it comes to plastic machining, you need Yorke Precision. Feel free to call us any time with questions you might have involving plastics or plastic machining.

Different Types of Plastics:

Acetal/Delrin  – combines lubricity and wear resistance with stiffness and strength.

Acrylic/Plexiglass  – This material offers good chemical-resistance & is FDA approved for food contact.

Fiberglass  –widely used in electrical, industrial, and construction applications

G10  –are produced from woven glass fabric epoxy laminate sheets similar to fiberglass.

Glass Filled Polycarbonate  – exhibits extraordinary impact resistance and excellent electrical properties.

HDPE  –  offers excellent impact resistance, light weight, low moisture absorption, and high tensile strength.

Lexan  – engineered for window glazing as well as for sign applications.

PEEK  –  High Performance plastic that offers chemical and water resistance. PEEK can also be used continuously at 480°F without damage.

PET  – good chemical and abrasion resistance, virtually unaffected by moisture.

Phenolic  – a fine weave (less than 4 ounce/square yard) cotton linen, combined with phenolic resin.

Polycarbonate  – high-impact strength, high modulus of elasticity, and good dimensional stability.

Polyethylene  – wear resistant component on conveyors, chutes, troughs, tension bars and liners.

Polypropylene  – great for a variety of applications from basic industrial tanks to Semiconductor Equipment.

PTFE/Teflon  –a self-lubricating material that provides a low friction coefficient, and is ideally suited for the manufacture of corrosion-resistant gaskets & seals. PTFE is also handy for gluing fixtures, as most adhesives don’t stick to it.

PVC/CPVC  – a widely used cheap plastic that can be used for many applications.

PVDF/Kynar  –one of the most stable and pure of all commercial plastics. Used for piping, tubing, vessel fabrication, molded valves and fittings, nozzles and other items for corrosive fluid handling.

UHMW  –abrasion resistance, superior impact resistance, non-sticking and self-lubricating, well-suited for drag conveyor flights, paddles, sprockets, and feed screws.

ULTEM/Polyetherimide – A Resin and amorphous thermoplastic, ULTEM is often used in the medical industry because it has similar characteristics to PEEK.
